Parents in Kogi State have been called upon to closely monitor the activities of their children to enable them to grow up responsibly.
The Administrator Lokoja Local Government Council, Alhaji Shiru Lawal made the call while reacting to unwholesome acts of some youths at Adankolo and other parts of Lokoja metropolis.
In a statement signed by Public Relations Officer of the Council, Salisu Datti, the Administrator lamented that the present day youth in Kogi State have developed some uncharitable behaviours that if not checked would be inimical to the Kogi Society.
Parents, the Administrator further explained, have a vital role to play in shaping the future of their children by moulding their character and inculcating moral discipline in them to become useful to society.
He expressed disappointment that some parents shirk away from their responsibility and allow their children to indulge in acts capable of causing disgrace to the family.
Alhaji Shiru, however, appealed to the youths to always direct their energies towards ventures that add value to their lives rather than engaging in activities that would have negative effects in their future.
The Local Government boss warned that his Council would not fold its arms and watch some misguided elements under any guise carrying dangerous weapons terrorizing the innocent and law abiding citizens of the local government.
The Administrator further disclosed that the law enforcement agents have been directed to deal decisively with anyone caught disturbing public peace.
He commended the Nigeria Police and the State Vigilante Group for their prompt action in bringing the situation under control.
