Kogi State Government recently upgraded not less than 88 Traditional Rulers in the State and the Royal Fathers could not be more thankful than expressed during an advocacy visit of the Management of the Bureau of Information Services and Grassroots Sensitisation to the Western Senatorial District of the State
While speaking at the meeting held in Kabba, the Director General of the Bureau, Mr. Abdukarim Abdulmalik said the State Government would continue to give priority attention to the traditional institution as an effective tool for good governance in the State.
He said traditional Rulers in the State have been given the elevation to elicit positive response from them towards effective administration at the grassroots.
He also explained that the meeting came up to create synergy between the Local Government Administrators and the Traditional Rulers, to assist them in devising workable plans to make the forthcoming elections free, fair and credible.
He charged the two bodies to work in collaboration, in defining the roles and level of involvement of their people and ensure that all are educated towards a peaceful electioneering in their domain.
In his message of appreciation, Chief David Agwayi of Ward 1, Lokoja lauded the achievements of the State Government in his ward.
He described Governor Yahaya Bello as a man of justice in his equitable distribution of the staff of office across the State.
HRH Oba (Amb) T. Ayo Lawrence Stephen of Isanlu Makutu, commended the Bureau for creating such a purposeful forum of interaction and called for the widening of it’s scope to involve more stakeholders.
He called on the State Government to make the issue of salary payment paramount saying government’s efforts at infrastructure development could only be appreciated if complimented by human resource development.
The Permanent Secretary in the Bureau, Mr. Syvanus Akpama enjoined the Royal Fathers to accord the Resident Information Officers the necessary assistance in grassroots Sensitisation.
The Royal Fathers offered prayers for the Government and people of the State.
